What is horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and when is it used?
HDD is a trenchless method that installs water, gas, fibre, and electrical conduit under roads, driveways, and landscaping with small entry and exit pits. Use it when open-cut restoration would cost more than the install or when surface disruption must stay low.
When should I choose hydrovac instead of a backhoe?
Choose hydrovac (soft dig) when buried utilities are congested, locates are uncertain, or a strike would be costly. It is the preferred first tool near wellhead protection areas, busy boulevards, and finished commercial sites.
